Scottish Russell of Falkirk Stick Barometer


A late 18th century Scottish Mahogany cased stick barometer.

The barometer has a register plate that is inscribed J Russell Falkirk and is an early example of his work.

John Russell went on to become one of Scotland's most famous barometer, clock and watch makers (1745-1817).

The barometer has an oval mahogany cover for the mercury cistern and the case is veneered in figured mahogany with chequered inlays to the edges.

To the top is a hinged glazed door over the engraved brass register plate.

The glass tube containing the mercury has a mahogany cover for it's full length.

The barometer is in good working condition. (Circa 1780)
