Early 19thC Regency  oak Gillows of Lancaster 'Butlers Canterbury'.

The shaped top consists of a box with a sloping hinged lid that lifts off and a larger lidded cutlery storage box (These compartments have wonderful fine dovetail joints.)

The tray shaped end has a half round moulded lip and is designed to stand plates on for setting or clearing a table. the tray top stands on four finely turned legs with gilded brass castors.

The underside of the stand is impressed twice with J.W. Hetherington Lancaster and the same table can be seen in S E Stuart,s book on GILLOWs volume 2 page 248 and states (Quote) "A knife box with space for plates similar to one drawn by Gillows on 25th July 1794"
