An early 19th century Indian Vizagapatam writing slope.

The box is made from sandal wood and is veneered with ivory that has been engraved and filled with lac, the ivory frames panels of sandal wood lats. The box when open has more Vizagapatam decoration surrounding the writing slope and the edge of the box is veneered with horn. To the top edge of the interior are compartments to hold pens, a ruler and ink wells, only one ink well is fitted while the pen compartment has a horn pen tray.

The box is in original condition which is very good, some of the lac is slightly rubbed. The box does have a working lock and key.
