A 19th century Victorian games compendium in a Rosewood & Mahogany box.

The box is Rosewood veneered onto mahogany, has a lift up lid and two doors that open at the front.

The front opening doors hold a chess set made from ebony and box wood, the pieces sit on metal pins to hold them in place and there is a 'kite' date mark stamped in the centre of this section.

The underside of the lid holds folding leather games board for chess draughts or checkers and backgammon.

The box has several layers of lift out trays, the top tray holds a cribbage board, four cribbage marks, six dice, a bone domino set and a set of draughts or checks for the backgammon board.

The second mahogany tray has four compartments to hold playing cards and the lower fixed tray holds two turned boxwood dice shakers.

The box and games are in good condition, the box has had the polish sympathetically restored and has a working lock and key. (Circa 1869)
