Betjemann Patent Locking Decanter

A Victorian Betjemann patent cut glass locking spirit decanter.

The square decanter has a cut body and a sterling silver collar on the neck with a lock and key.

The circular cut glass stopper is silver mounted with a hinged clasp that fits the lock on the neck.

The sterling silver collar has hall marks for London, the year 1896 and the maker's mark for Betjemann Brothers (John George & Ernest Edward).

The underside of the stopper has clear hall marks and a patent number: 25038-97, Ernest Edward Betjemann was Sir John Betjemann's father.

To unlock the decanter once the key is turned, the clasp is lifted and the stopper quarter turned to the left (if facing the lock).

The decanter and lock are in good condition. (Circa 1896)
