19th Century Japanese Yosegi-Zaiku Cabinet


A fine late 19th century Japanese cabinet with Yosegi-Zaiku marquetry decoration.

The cabinet is raised on an integral  rosewood stand and has a pair of hinged doors enclosing eight drawers and a pair of sliding panels.

The doors have engraved copper hinges and lock plates along with matching corner decorations.

To the underside of the doors is a full length drawer with shaped copper handles and camphor wood drawer linings.

The interior drawers are camphor wood lined and have the same copper handles, the sliding doors have coromandel wood frames and flower shaped handles.

The cabinet stands on a rosewood frame with four legs that have shaped toes.

The cabinet is in good condition with high quality figured veneers and timbers used throughout.

The pair of doors have an interior locking bar for the left hand door and a replacement key for the right hand door. (Circa 1890)
