We stock a varied selection of Antique Boxes and within this category which include, Trunks and Dower Chests as well as Tea Caddies to work boxes if its square or oblong we call it a box!!

•    Antique Trunks & Chests

The larger boxes which are used as a storage Trunks and Dower chests are made from Oak, Mahogany Teak, Walnut and Camphor. The Antique Camphor and Teak wood trunks sometimes have brass bindings and were made for travelling or campaigns, today these make great coffee tables, boxes at the end of a bed or in an alcove. The 17th & 18th century Dower chest, Kist or Blanket box were for storage within the house some with drawers in the base and a candle box inside.

•    Antique Writing, Stationery & Deed Boxes

This type of Antique box is used to write at or store writing equipment, the lap top of its time; some do get called lap desks. Box desks are as described a box that folds open for you to write at and store, paper, pens, sealing wax, envelopes ect. The stationery box or cabinet is more for storage of writing equipment and the 19th century stationary cabinet can even have a calendar built in.

 

The Antique Deed boxes we have can be used to store more than “Deeds”, they are an empty box without many interior fittings and can be used to store whatever documents you have.

•    Antique Work or Sewing box

Ladies antique work boxes or sewing boxes are very popular, with their fitted interiors made to hold needles, bobbins, threads and pieces of material. We have Fine Regency work boxes and unusual continental sewing boxes.

•    Antique Tea Caddies

From the early 18th century to late Victorian period we have a great selection of “Caddies”. The tea caddy was used to lock away your tea because in the Georgian period it was a very expensive product so very exotic and excellent quality antique caddies where made to store your tea.

•    Other Antique Boxes

A diverse category where I will list the different other boxes we sell or have sold in the past, antique artist boxes by Reeves and Ackerman, antique games compendium boxes, antique Russian boxes with painted and lacquered finishes. Antique inlaid Tunbridge ware boxes, Cribbage boxes with storage for playing cards, Sevres porcelain boxes, Onyx boxes, Cigar boxes or Humidors. Fine Battersea and Bilston enamel boxes and last but not least the Tantalus with the box on the front to hold glasses and games.
