Coromandel Wood Jewel or Dressing Box

A fine quality mid 19th century Victorian coromandel wood veneered jewel or dressing box.

The interior is fitted out with blue leather and holds eleven sterling silver top bottles and jars and a manicure set.

The box has a brass edge and military style plate handles to the side and the front drawer.

The drawer is silk lined and compartmentalised to hold jewellery and has a blue leather covered lid.

The box has a working lock and key, the lock is stamped "Barron Patent" with a crown over 'V.R' and the locking action also locks the drawer below.

The silver tops have hall marks for London, the year 1857 and the maker's marks for John Hows.

The front tray can be lifted out to reveal a leather lined storage area underneath.

The underside of the lid has a blue velvet covered panel that falls forward, the panel has a leather correspondence folder to its back and in the recess of the lid is a lift out dressing mirror.

The dressing box is in very good condition. (Circa 1857)
