An early 19th century Georgian mahogany box desk.

The box has a brass bound edge with military plate handles and a brass bramagh lock which is stamped with a crown.

The box has a maker's label inside 'M Tait, 41 Cornhill London, Manufacturer of Razors, Fine Cutlery, Copying Machines, Dressing Cases, Portable Writing Desks & English and Foreign Perfumery'.

The interior has a writing slope with two compartments underneath, a pair of locking inkwells and a pen storage area.

The box has it's original blue velvet writing surface with a tooled edge and underneath the slope is a secret compartment.

The box comes with three documents which were in the box when it was purchased:

A City of Edinburgh Certificate of Proclamation (Marriage) between Robert Cooper & Janet Galloway 25th August 1839.

A Certificate of Birth & Baptism Daughter Lillian 24 August 1840.

A Certificate of Birth & Baptism Son Charles 3rd July 1843.

The box is in good condition though the writing surface is worn, the polish has been sympathetically restored and wax finished and the keys are replacements. (Circa 1825)
