Georgian North Shields Grandfather Clock

An early 19th century Georgian inlaid mahogany cased grandfather clock by T Davies.

The clock has an eight day movement that strikes the hour on a bell, a painted dial that has an oval scene at the top of a young lady looking out to sea as a ship sails away, the word "HOPE" written just below her feet.

The dial has fruit and flowers painted in the corners and 'T Davies N. Shields' above the winding holes.

The case is a better quality and condition than most North East clocks, having a long dome topped door which is cross banded and has chequered stringing.

The clock base, hood door and dome top has the same chequered stringing.

The main body of the clock has canted corners with decorative inlays and box wood line inlay.

The flared moulding below the hood has an inlaid decoration of swags and harebells.

The clock is in very good fully working condition with a wonderful mahogany case. (Circa 1810)
