Georgian Mahogany Bureau Bookcase

A late 18th century George III mahogany bureau bookcase.

The bookcase has a glazed two door top with 15 panes of glass in each door and an architectural pediment.

The glazed bookcase has two slide out adjustable shelves that are pine with a mahogany facing edge.

The back of the top interior has a material covered board behind the shelves that can be removed if required.

The bureau base has four graduated oak lined drawers, a hinged writing board flap with pull out supports and stands on shaped bracket feet.

The bureau interior has an unusual arrangement of oak lined drawers that have mahogany fronts, with original rococo shaped brass drop handles.

There are five small drawers, one double width drawer and a triple drawer along with three pigeon holes and a central door.

The cornice has a broken architectural pediment with dental moulding and a gilt brass finial in the centre.

The bureau bookcase is in very good original condition having been made from fine quality mahogany and oak used in the drawer linings and back of the glazed top. The bracket feet are unusual with a slight kick out shape at the bottom edge.
