Georgian Mahogany Bonheur Du Jour

A late 18th to early 19th century Georgian mahogany bow fronted bonheur du jour.

The bonheur du jour (lady's writing desk) has a pair of cupboard doors, each holding four drawers and pigeon holes and stands on four square tapering and fluted legs.

The doors are veneered with figured mahogany and have a box wood and banded edge with working locks and a key.

The key fits both matching locks, the left facing lock is fitted upside down.

The drawers are mahogany and box wood fronted with fine cedar wood linings and knob handles.

Between the doors is a recess with a domed inlaid frame above.

The top of the bonheur du jour is made from an oblong figured mahogany panel with a box wood edge and cross banded front edge.

The bonheur du jour is made from very good quality figured mahogany and is an excellent colour. (Circa 1800)
