14 Seat Extending Dining Table

A mid 19th century German mahogany oval extending centre table.

The table can take up to five extra leaves and could seat 14 people.

The table has a hand written label under the central block stating it was made on 3rd November 1861 by C Rathenau who was an apprentice in Bremen but came from Husum near the Danish border.

The table has a central platform base and when the top is opened it exposes a rack of pine runners that slide open to hold 1-5 leaves.

Between the pine runners that is a storage box that holds four screw on legs for support when the table is extended.

The table has five matching solid mahogany leaves which are replacements made from 19th century mahogany.

This type of table might have had pine leaves that would have been covered with a cloth when used.

The table is in good condition, the brass casters under the central platform base are replacements.
