An early 19th century George IV Regency period Tiger wood (Goncalo Alves) centre table with a platform base.

The circular top has a moulded edge above a shallow frieze that has a beaded mould lower edge.

The top tips on its block and has a brass release catch to allow this action, and two brass pins which unscrew so that the top can be removed.

The platform base has three large scroll carved feet with concealed castors underneath, the sides of the platform are concave and have a shaped lower edge.

The centre column support has a carved collar at its base and carved lotus shaped leaves surrounding the stalk which is carved in the style of a palm trunk.

The table block is veneered in Tiger wood and the mahogany underside and rails of the table are painted to simulate Tiger wood.

The table has a wonderful grain and colour to the timber and has had the polish sympathetically restored. (Circa 1825).
