Bois Durci Medallion of Richard Cobden

A mid 19th century French bois durci medallion of Richard Cobden.

The medallion has the name "Richard Cobden" around the rim. Richard Cobden (3 June 1804 – 2 April 1865) was an English Radical and Liberal politician, manufacturer, and a campaigner for free trade and peace.

Bois Durci was used as an ebony or hard wood substitute and was made from hard wood sawdust mixed with animal blood that was heated and compressed in a mould.

The medallion is in very good condition. (Circa 1850)

Diameter 11.5m (4.5 inches)
