Large Satsuma Vase Signed Gyokusen

A large late 19th Meiji period (1864-1911) Japanese Satsuma pottery vase by Gyokusen.

The vase has a blue background and is decorated with two large painted scenes.

The first scene is of a large flock of cranes (many which have taken flight) on a riverbank with a grove of bamboo and mount Fuji in the background.

The second scene is of a pond with weeping cherry blossom trees and Asian pheasants with mount Fuji again in the background.

The bottom of the vase has the mark for 'Dai Nihon Satsuma Gyokusen Zo'.

The vase is in good condition with some rubbing to the gilt of the top rim. (Circa 1890)
