18th Century Chippendale Mahogany Bureau

A very good example of an 18th century Chippendale mahogany bureau.

The bureau has four graduated oak lined drawers with cock beaded edges and brass handles.

Either side of the drawers is a reeded quarter column with gilt wood tops and bottoms and the bureau stands on ogee feet.

The bureau has a stepped and shaped interior of eight oak lined drawers with brass knob handles and eight pigeon holes with shaped dividers.

The central door is concave and carved with a shell decoration and to each side of the door there are reed pillars with slide forward disguised compartments.

The bureau flap is held open by two slide out rests and has a leather writing surface.

The bureau is very well made from quality mahogany and oak with steel locks and a key for the flap.

The bureau is in good condition, the leather writing surface is an old replacement and the brass handles are old period style replacements. (Circa 1780)
