18th Century Mahogany Bureau Bookcase

A late 18th century Georgian mahogany bureau bookcase.

The bookcase has a two door glazed top over a fall front bureau desk base.

The glazed top has cross grained veneer to the door frames and astragal glazing.

The top has three adjustable shelves that slide out to move and the cornice has a moulded top edge and a fluted frieze.

The hinged flap to the bureau desk base has a pair of matching veneered panels to the centre, a cross banded edge and box wood and ebony line inlays.

The base also has four oak lined graduated drawers with original brass swan neck handles, the oak linings of exceptional construction and quality.

The desk interior has ten oak lined drawers with mahogany fronts and brass battle-axe handles, four pigeon holes and a central door.

To each side of the door is a decorative satin wood panel with box wood and ebony lined inlay.

Inside the centre door is a single oak drawer which when removed reveals a pair of secret compartments to either side.

The bureau stands on decorative shaped bracket feet and is made from quality mahogany and oak and is in good original condition.
