18th Century Parquetry Bureau
A late 18th to early 19th century north Italian , we think from Lombardy, parquetry veneered bureau.
The bureau is covered in what is called 'Tumbling Block' parquetry, and is cross banded in walnut and olive wood and inlaid with many other woods.
The bureau has three graduated long drawers to the front that are walnut lined and have original oval brass handles.
The bureau flap when opened is supported by a pair of folding brass arms.
The interior has pigeon holes and four walnut drawers with brass ring handles.
The bureau stands on turned flat bun feet.
This very heavy quality decorative bureau desk is in good condition and we have sympathetically restored the inlays, some shrinkage marks to the sides.
(Circa 1800)
(This is the heaviest piece of furniture we have, all the drawers have to be removed to make it able to be lifted).
If you would like to see a short video presentation of the bureau which is on my Instagram site please click on the link below.
