Bois Durci Medallions of Victoria & Albert
A pair of 19th century French bois durci medallions of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
The medallions have "Victoria Queen of England" and "Prince Albert" moulded around the profiles of Victoria and Albert and 'Bois Durci' moulded on the back.
Bois Durci was used as an ebony or hard wood substitute and was made from hard wood sawdust mixed with animal blood that was heated and compressed in a mould.
The medallions are held in a gilt brass circular frame with a ring at the top, both medallions are in good condition. (Circa 1850)
