Campaign Style Mahogany Box Desk
A mid 19th century mahogany brass bound traveling desk or box desk by William Wilson.
The box is very heavy mahogany in a campaign style with gilt brass strapping, corners and military plate carrying handles at the sides.
The interior has a black leather covered writing board with storage compartments underneath.
The shorter board hinges open to reveal a lift out tray and underneath that a spring open secret compartment that has three small mahogany drawers with knob handles.
The underside of the lid has a storage compartment and ribbon mail rack.
Under the pen tray and inkwells is a maker's label for William Wilson 21 George St Edinburgh.
The top of the lid has a brass plate that is inscribed 'Rev . . . ' and the box has a working lock and key.
This well made high quality box is in very good condition with some old marks from use and the leather writing surface is a replacement. (Circa 1850)
