English Mahogany Roll Top Desk

An early 20th century mahogany roll top desk.

The desk has a lock escutcheon maker's label "Entirely English HLL Make" made by Harris Lebus London (HLL) the company was based in Tabernacle Street in Tottenham.

HLL were makers of fine quality furniture at the start of the 20th century using mahogany and satinwood and solid wood linings.

This very well made example of a roll top desk has an 'S' shaped tambour shutter with interior drawers that have solid satinwood fronts and a metal pull handle with a name tag above.

The interior also has file racks, pigeon holes along with side and back document racks.

The left pedestals has four drawers, each oak lined and have removable oak divisions.

The right hand pedestal has two drawers over a double drawer that is fitted to take files.

The drawer fronts are solid mahogany with oval metal handles and a recess in the mahogany behind the handle.

The kneehole has a slim drawer with a concave shape and oak linings.

The desk has deep fielded panels to all sides with a round thumbnail mould to all edges.

The tambour shutter when closed has a spring lock and key, the action of closing the shutter locks the drawers in the pedestals.

The desk is high quality and in very good original condition and because of the weight dismantles into three parts for transport.

The desk is finished on all sides so could free stand if required. (Circa 1900-1910)
