George II Style Irish Mahogany Arm Chair

 

A 19th century George II style mahogany arm chair.

The chair is broad in construction with a large drop in pad seat that has a maker's label underneath "Est 1779 Robert Strahan & Co, Cabinet Maker's & Upholsterers, Auctioneers & Undertakers, 24 Henry Street Dublin".

The chair has a domed top rail and a broad carved and shaped splat with a shell carving at the top.

The arms have carved eagle heads at the end with shaped supports, the front legs are modified cabriole with a shell on the knee and carved claw feet.

The back legs are square and chamfered and joined to the front legs by a serpentine shaped cross stretcher with a shell carving to the centre.

The chair is well made and in good condition, the pad seat is covered with an old leather that is perished in the centre. (Circa 1880)
