A 19th century Victorian oak metamorphic library step/chair.
The chair is substantially made with turned oak front legs and square back legs.
The chair has a turned spindle in the back and a top rail that extends beyond the uprights and has a carved scroll detail.
To either side of the chair are brass hook eyes which release so that the top tilts forward and hinges over the seat until the back touches the floor and becomes the support for the step.
The step has four treads, the top three are inset with red tooled leather and the side supports for the step have a carved scroll detail.
The step/chair is in very good strong useable condition, the red leather on the treads are replacements. (Circa 1870)
